The MS Walk has been getting smaller and smaller, now it’s gone.
The MS Society of Canada cancelling this year’s event in St. Stephen because there aren’t enough participants.
Atlantic Director of Development for the MS Society of Canada, Tim Dunlop says having the support is the most critical factor, and they have received great support from volunteers in the past who helped organize the event.
He says when it first started in 2006, there were over 180 participants, many of which came from the St. Stephen High School, which hosted the event.
Dunlop says a lot of the hype came from students who rallied for a local teacher who was afflicted with Multiple Schlorosis. He says that teacher has since moved away. In 2014, there were less than 30 people registered for St. Stephen.
He says if the numbers grow, the event can easily start up again in St. Stephen. Until then he encourages anyone wanting to participate to register for nearby MS Walks in Saint John or Fredericton.
