New Brunswick has the dubious distinction of being number one among the provinces by level of average post-secondary student debt.
That’s according to a student debt map compiled by Consolidated Credit Counseling Services and the NB Student Alliance is calling on the government to take action. Executive Director Lindsay Handren says what they’re hearing from students is that they don’t think they can stay here when they graduate.
Handren says the average student debt is just over $35,000 in New Brunswick, about $13,000 higher than the national average.
She says they are calling on the government to invest in affordable education.
