The Provincial NDP is calling for the minimum wage to be raised to $15 an hour over 4 years after that be adjusted to the cost of living each April.
NDP Interim leader Rosaire L’Italien says the party will make increasing the minimum wage a major issue in the 2018 provincial election.
He claims there are studies that show with higher minimum wages, workers are more productive with lower absenteeism and job turnover so it would be good for business. L’Italien says increasing the minimum wage to $15 an hour could be the single biggest policy change to take pressure off an underfunded health care system in decades.
The minimum wage goes up to $11 an hour April 1st.
