New Brunswickers Encouraged To Think ‘Green’

The province is encouraging New Brunswickers to think green ahead of the holidays.

Environment and Local Government Minister Jeff Carr says this time of year produces more waste than any other — but you can make a big difference by making some small changes.

Some of those include re-using gift wrap or gift bags, or using newspaper or recycled paper to wrap gifts since most commercial wrapping paper cannot be recycled.

For decorating, using LED Christmas lights can minimize energy consumption.

The department also recommends buying a real Christmas tree, if you can, and disposing of it in an environmentally-friendly way.

And all those batteries for toys or other gifts? The department recommends getting rechargeable ones and sending any old batteries back through the household battery recycling program.
