No Room For Compromise On Parkland Sale Proposal, Group Says

There’s no room for compromise when it comes to the possibility of developing city-owned parkland along Sandy Point Road at Rockwood Park and Tucker Park.

That’s according the Friends of Rockwood Park member and former Fundy Baykeeper David Thompson tells CHSJ News once you sell it off it isn’t coming back.

“If they sell Tucker Park, whatever’s there is gone,” says Thompson.

“And with Rockwood Park, the parts that they want to sell surround Harrigan Lake and if there’s development there it’s already impinging on the Harrigan Lake trail from all the rubble they illegally dumped in the park, the city, and if they built around it it’s going to destroy the habitat of Harrigan Lake.”

The group put up a banner in front of city hall on Friday to raise awareness about the proposed sale of park land.

“The purpose of being here today with this big bright banner that people are seeing is information,” says Thompson.

A decision on development hasn’t been made yet. The Growth Committee is waiting for a recommendation from city staff which will come next month.
