Nursing Shortage Closes Detox Centre Temporarily

Horizon Health says an “ongoing nursing shortage” has forced the temporary closure of the detox unit at Ridgewood Addiction Services in Saint John.

In a news release Friday, the health authority said all patients and clients are being directed to facilities in Fredericton, Moncton, or Miramichi.

Staff who work in the unit are being sent temporarily reassigned to other duties within Addiction and Mental Health Services in Saint John, said the release.

“These temporary changes were made to ensure safe and quality care to all our clients/patients,” said Horizon.

Officials did not provide a timeline on when the unit may reopen, only to say it will happen “as soon as we are safely able to do so.”
