April 4, 1930 – May 19, 2026
It is with great sadness that the family of Barbara Hines announce her passing in the early hours of May 19, 2026.
Barbara was the only child of Ernest and Olive Grandy, and is predeceased by her husband Howard, eldest son Mark, and her grandchild Matt.
Barbara leaves behind her four children; Joanne Budreski (Paul), Jim (Dianne), Hugh (Mary), Rob (Susie), and, as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren in NB, NS, Ontario, and BC. Having thrived in good health for so long, Barbara was not only the cherished mother to her children but also the surrogate mother to their spouses. She will be sorely missed by all of us.
Having spent her married life as a stay-at-home mom, she dedicated her life fully to her family. They were always first in her thoughts and actions, even in her last days on this earth. Barbara had a quick wit and a sharp mind, keeping up to date with finance and politics. If you were going to state your point of view, best that you had your facts straight. If you helped her with her banking, she would quickly let you know if you made a mistake.
Born in the North end of Saint John, Barbara and Howard eventually moved to Black River, NB, an area she had been connected to since she was an infant. She loved the area and was fortunate to live there until her passing.
The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the doctors on duty at the Saint John Regional Hospital, with special thanks to the nurses in 3C South. The care was excellent.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424). No service or visitation is planned at this time.
