It is with appreciation for a life well lived that the family of Catherine “Kay” Stevens announces her passing, which occurred at Ridgewood Veteran’s Wing on May 5, 2026, at the age of 102.
Born in Saint John on March 17, 1924, she was the daughter of the late James and Marjorie (Friar) Stevens. Catherine was a proud East Ender who served in the W.R.C.N.S. (Navy) from 1942 to 1945. She worked at F.W. Woolworth Co. for nearly 38 years. Kay was a proud member of Fundy Branch #68, Service Women’s Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, where she also served as past president and treasurer for several years. In 1993, she was honored with her L.M.S. Medal. She also dedicated over eight years to serving with the “Rodney Sea Cadets”. Following her retirement, Catherine continued to give back to her community through volunteer work at St. Joseph’s Hospital and the Community Food Basket.
She will be lovingly remembered by her nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and all who know Kay.
Catherine was predeceased by her parents, James and Marjorie Stevens, her sisters Helen Case and Josephine Smith and her brother, Bede Stevens.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424). Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 12th, 2026, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM, with a Legion Tribute at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Liturgy will be held at Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery directly after the Funeral Liturgy.
