November 4, 1934 – February 12, 2026
It is with sadness but a sense of peace for a long life, well-lived, that we announce the passing of Charlie Monaghan on February 12, 2026, at the Carleton Kirk Nursing Lodge with his loving family by his side. Charlie was born in Campbellton, PEI on November 4, 1934, to the late William and Isabelle (Gaudet) Monaghan and was the loving husband to his late wife Georgina (Murphy) Monaghan who passed away in 2022.
Charlie was part of a very large family, and growing up he was taken out of school at a very young age to go help his father on the fishing boats. He then worked on a farm and drove potato trucks. When he was working on the farm, he met the love of his life in Georgina Murphy. Charlie moved from PEI to Saint John at the age of 23 when he was grandfathered in as a member of Local 213 as a Pipefitter where he spent all of his working career. He was very skilled at his job, but when it came time to retire at the age of 61, he wasted no time on the decision. He wanted to spend time with his family and doing his hobbies and he was not the type to be dissuaded once he made a decision. Charlie was an outdoorsman, through and through and spent so much time with his children outside, fishing and hunting.
He and Georgina were blessed with 5 children, two boys and three girls, and Charlie was so proud of all of them. He had a unique bond with each of them.
He is survived by his children, Terry (Lorraine), Wendy (Gerald) Robichaud, Barry (Dannielle), Tammy (John) Wills and Paula (Duncan) MacVicar; his beloved grandchildren, Renée, Rayann, Shelby, Michaella, Hailey, Robert, Bradley, Brittany, Sam, Billy and Alec; his 12 adored great grandchildren and his 1 great great granddaughter, and it continues to grow; his siblings, Raymond, Peter (Noline) and Clair (Christine) Monaghan, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Eva (Henry) Robbins, Bertha (Ralph) Clements, and Mary (Gerald) O’Halloran and sister-in-law, Eleanor Monaghan; as well as a grandson, Stephane and a great granddaughter, Alesha. And remembrances made to the deceased Murphy relatives.
The Monaghan family are sincerely thankful to all of the staff of Carleton Kirk Nursing Lodge. The above and beyond compassion and kindness shown to Charlie was so comforting.
Arrangements are entrusted to Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue (506-634-1701) where visitation will take place on Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 1-3:00pm. A Celebration of Charlie’s life will follow at 3:15pm from the Castle Fallsview Chapel. A private family interment will take place at St. Augustine’s Cemetery in the Spring. For those who wish, memorial donations in Charlie’s memory to Carleton Kirk Nursing Lodge or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by his family. For those unable to attend the service, the family invites you to watch it at the following:
