Besides his parents, he is survived by his loving wife Nancy (Leslie) Osborne and his two beautiful daughters and their families. Sarah and Félix Rancourt as well as Samantha and Christopher Wall along with their children, Derrick’s five grandsons of whom he is so proud; Cedric, Watson, Hector, Roland and Oscar. Derrick is also survived by his brother and sister, who he was always very close with. Mark Osborne with whom he shared a lifelong bond, not just as brothers but best friends and “little sister” Tricia Osborne-Parker and her family, her husband Jeff Parker and their children Scarlett and Gabriel. Derrick is also survived by and will be missed by many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents and many other relatives.
Derrick worked building swimming pools for 40 years. First, at Sparkle Pools with his Uncle Crow, and cousins Lance and Blake, then at Emmerson Service Center. All before moving on to work for the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA 273) on the Saint John waterfront. He also worked one year in Bermuda which he thoroughly enjoyed. Derrick was also a commercial fisherman and spent many days and nights alongside his father and brother fishing in the Saint John Harbour. His work ethic knew no limit; he always gave more than one hundred percent.
Derrick was a proud lifelong North Ender. From his formative years on Cranston Avenue, to spending many days of his childhood playing at PES field, with special neighbourhood friends and family. He was a great athlete involved in hockey, soccer and baseball. He graduated from Saint John Vocational school. In later years he enjoyed many drives and excursions to Rockwood Park and many other places either by vehicle or on his Harley. Derrick was very personable and very much loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
