June 26, 1948 – September 26, 2026
It is with deep sadness that the family of Donald “Donnie” Joseph Bennett of Bay View, New Brunswick, announce his unexpected passing on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at home. Born June 26, 1948, in St. Martins, he was a son of the late Gregory and Freda (Gurr) Bennett.
Donnie was always a character and loved to make others laugh with his quick wit, colourful language, and funny expressions. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the solitude of being in nature. That would explain the over thirty plus year career he spent as the caretaker at the Chisolm Lake Fishing Club. If you asked Donnie, he would say his greatest accomplishments in life were his daughter who will miss him forever, grand children and great grand-children. He was a legend in his community and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Donnie is survived by his cherished daughter, Holly Dawn “Daddy’s Little Gurrl” Bennett (Steve Creamer); dear friend and former partner, Julia Bennett; beloved grandchildren: Zachary “Zacharoo, gramps little man” Bennett (Hayley), Lexie “Gamp’s Little Hen” Pinkney and Karrson Bennett; treasured great-grandchildren: Faith Trinity, Jada Dawn, Zavier, Nolen, Memphis, Nova Lynn and Zoey (AKA Joey); brothers: Kenneth Bennett, Les Bennett (Debbie) and Edward Bennett (Gail); sisters: Josephine Deveau, Gwendlyn Mannet (Leland) and Barbara Bennett; sister-in-law, Susan Smith-Marsh; step-grandchildren: Austin, Tyler, Megan and Nate; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family. His family would also like to mention his long-time friends: Lynn M. and Whitt. A special thanks to his adopted family, Eddie and Irene, who were always looking out for Dad.
In addition to his parents Gregory and Freda, Donnie was predeceased by his sister Winnifred Bennett.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424). In keeping with Donnie’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A gathering will take place at a later date, more details to follow. For those who wish, remembrances to the IWK Health Center or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
