With heavy hearts, the family of Grace Veronica (nee Gaudet) Barnes announce her peaceful passing, on March 30, 2026, at Saint John Regional Hospital. Born December 10, 1928, in Saint John, she was a daughter of the late Felix Gaudet and Margaret Robichaud.
Grace spent much of her working career in retail sales. She was a gifted athlete and spent some of her earlier adult years as a professional figure skater. She was an avid bowler, ballroom dancer and golfer and long-time member of the Hampton Golf Club. For a time, she played with the New Brunswick Ladies Senior Golf Team.
Grace is survived by her daughter, Betty-Ann Sabey (Ken) Kelowna BC; a son, John Gaudet, Saint John, her long-time companion James Penn, Rothesay, ten grandchildren and many great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Greg Barnes; a son, David Barnes, and her seven brothers and sisters.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424). In keeping with Grace’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
