Born on April 22, 1944, Ms. St Onge passed away on April 24, 2026, at the Saint John Regional Hospital at the age of 82.
She was the daughter of Roland Coggan and Jean Sherwood, and was raised on Model Farm Road, Quispamsis.
Ms. St.Onge was preceded in death by her parents, Roland Coggan and Jean Sherwood; her first husband, Eugene Hallett; her second husband, Jerry St.Onge; her grandfather, Douglas Sherwood; her grandmother, Myrtle Sherwood; her uncle, Lee Sherwood; two sisters (at birth); her son, Doug Hallett; her granddaughter, Ashley Thibideau; her sister, Gail Coggan and her nephew Jamie Hopey.
She is survived by her eight children: John (Michelle), Faith (Tim), Paul (Karen), Tim (Michelle), Andrew (Ami), Cathy (Mike), Susan, and Sharon (Howie). She is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Additionally, she is survived by her siblings Ann (Herman), Janet, Pam, Sharon (Robbie), Steve (Claire), and Ronnie (Dahlia), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Joan was a member of the Salvation Army Church, where she married Eugene Hallett. Her faith remained steadfast throughout her life, and she attended various churches.
Later in life, she met and married Jerry St.Onge. Following Jerry’s passing and a period of managing various health challenges, she resided at Kennebec Manor Millidgeville, where she enjoyed the weekly church services. Beyond her immediate family, her profound affection extended to her feline companions. She frequently shared stories about her own cats and happily listened to similar narratives from others. Her most common inquiry was, “Do you own cats?”
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424). A visitation with immediate family members on Thursday, April 30th, 2026 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Guests will be received from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM with a service in Brenan’s Chapel commencing at 2:00 PM, followed by a reception in Brenan’s Reception Center.
Floral tributes and expressions of sympathy may be directed to Brenan’s Funeral Home, located at 111 Paradise Row in Saint John. Alternatively, contributions can be made in her name to the local SPCA.
Interment will be a private ceremony for family only at The Holy Trinity Cemetery, Stockfarm Rd., Quispamsis.
