October 20, 1936 – March 6, 2026
It is with great sadness that the family of Leon Theodore Evans, cherished husband of the late Nancy (Kingston) Evans, announces his passing at the St. Joseph’s Hospital, surrounded by his family, on March 6, 2026. Born on October 20, 1936, in Lorneville, NB, he was the son of the late Viola (Galbraith) and Melvin Evans.
Leon graduated from Saint John Vocational School and went on to build a long and dedicated career as an electrician. He had a lifelong love of sports, particularly baseball and hockey, and treasured the years he spent on the field and at the rink. Leon played on many teams over the years, but hockey held a special place in his heart. He was especially proud to have been part of the Saint John Irving Oilers, the Saint John Mooseheads, and the Moosehead Old Timers, where he formed lasting friendships and many fond memories. In his free time, Leon loved cycling and camping with family and friends, making the most of every opportunity to be outdoors and surrounded by those he loved. One of his greatest joys was watching and following his children and grandchildren in their extracurricular activities, always supporting them with enthusiasm and pride.
Leon is survived by his loving sons: Jeffrey (Ronda) Evans of Saint John, NB, and their children, Ryan (Sarah), Alyssa (Alex), and Karly (James) and David (Heather) Evans of Perry, NY and their children, Paige, Isaac, Carter, and Mason. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law: Faith Kingston and Lois Kingston, brother-in-law: Norman McFarlane and many special nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, Nancy, Leon was predeceased by his parents; his special sister, Anna Clare Best (Ernest); his brothers-in-law: John Kingston, Ken Kingston (Connie), Malcolm Kingston, Walter Kingston (Marjorie) and Reginald Kingston; his sisters-in-law: Jean Titus (Raymond), Helen Turner (Wilfred), Phyllis Kane (Raymond), Elsie Kingston, and Cynthia McFarlane; nephews: Michael Best, Mike Cormier, Matthew White and Michael Hebert; and niece: Ann (Kingston) Jeffrey.
The family would like to thank and extend our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. K. Wilson, Dr. R. Hao and the nursing staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634-7424).
