Michael “Mick” Cave

June 6, 1941  –  May 15, 2026

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael “Mick” Cave, CD, of Saint John, NB, who passed away on May 15, 2026 at the age of 84. Born in Cambridge, England, he was the son of the late Sydney Arthur and Linda (Adams) Cave.

His family moved around a lot as his father was a member of the Air Force in Britain and served in WWII. Mick was involved in sports as a fly-weight boxer, wrestling, high-jump, and long-distance running. He collected many stamps in his passport backpacking across Europe. He immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1964 with his parents and siblings, Pat, Hilary, Keith, Robert, Janet, with Barry remaining to serve in the Air Force in Germany. Mick enjoyed the outdoors, especially kayaking, fishing, and camping. He worked as an industrial machinist and Lead Hand at SA Armstrong Ltd. and joined the 1st Toronto Service Battalion in Downsview, ON. He was a military police officer and radio tech before remustering as a RCEME (Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineer) in 1969. Mike met Louise who was a Corporal in the same service battalion. They married in 1972 and had Nancy before moving to Louise’s hometown of Saint John where they had Alison. Mick worked as an industrial mechanic with Gerald L. Peer Engineering, CANRON Atlantic Ltd., Clark Atlantic Carlift, and at Bricklin before settling down at Moosehead Breweries as a maintenance mechanic. He had a strong interest in all things mechanical and often tinkered in the garage with dreams of building an electric car and working with alternate energy systems.

He enjoyed a game of crib, single-malt whiskey, his Moosehead Lager, (AKA “Moose Red”) and Coronation Street. Dad was a hard worker, extremely honest, and was a “fantastic big brother”. He was a lifetime blood donor, making numerous blood and plasma donations in Britain and to the Canadian Red Cross. Mike remained in the Army Reserves, instructing on General Military Training courses, was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration (CD) in 1980, completed reserve vehicle weapons technician training amongst many other courses held at CFB Borden, CFB Gagetown, and CFB Pettawawa. He retired as a Master Warrant Officer (MWO), was a lifetime member of his beloved MWO’s and SGT’s mess at the Barrack Green Armouries in Saint John and retired from Moosehead after 27 years.

Mike is lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Louise; his children, Nancy of Nova Scotia and Alison (Todd) of Saint John; his grandson, Devon MacCulloch of Nova Scotia; brothers, Barry of Nottingham, UK, Keith (predeceased by his wife, Cathy) of Newcastle, ON and Bob of Hamilton ON; sisters, Pat Carver-Smith (Roger) of Birmingham, ON and Marion (Gary) of Port St. Lucie, Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sydney and Linda, sisters, Janet and Hilary Imineo (Vito, of Oakville, ON).

The family is most grateful to the Loch Lomond Villa, Willow House, where Dad had exceptional care.

Cremation has taken place. The family will have a private celebration of life at a later date. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (506-634-7424).

For those who wish, donations made to the Loch Lomond Villa Foundation or Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family.
