November 13, 1937 – October 28, 2026
It is with great sadness that the family of Opal Corinne (Quigley) Boyce announces her passing which occurred on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in New Glasgow, PEI, on November 13, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Rev. William G. and Alma (MacLaren) Quigley.
Opal worked as a medical secretary for various doctors throughout Saint John. She loved music and devoted many years to serving as a church organist and choir director at both Waterloo Street Baptist Church and Glen View United Church. A smart woman from a young age, Opal graduated from vocational school at just 15 years old and even had the honour of playing the pipe organ at her own graduation.
Opal was also very creative and enjoyed spending her time knitting, cross-stitching, and working on various crafts, there wasn’t anything she couldn’t make when she put her mind to it. She had a particular love for flowers, which, along with her passion for crafting, brought her much joy. In 1955, she married her husband, Donald, with whom she shared a love of collecting. Together, they looked forward to attending Rhoda’s Flea Market each year, where they enjoyed searching for treasures and adding to their collections of cards, stamps, and other keepsakes. These shared interests brought them much enjoyment throughout their years together.
Opal leaves behind her daughters, Linda Parks, Lori Livingston (Kevin), Leanne Boyce; grandchildren, Matthew Stewart (Crystal), Shauna Stewart, Alycia Downey (Chris), Trevor Livingston; great-grandchildren, Grace Stewart (Bailey Owen), Isabella Stewart, Chasity Stephen, Colin Downey, Charlee Downey; godchildren, Judy MacKinnon (Owen) and David Capson (Kim); brother-in-law, Bryan Baxter; nephew, Dean Morrison (Debbie); nieces, Debbie Boyce and Trisha Flaglor (Tom). In addition to her parents, Opal was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Donald Boyce; sister, Elizabeth Baxter; brother-in-law, Allison Boyce, and his wife Carma Boyce.
The family would like to extend a special thanks and appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Critical Care Unit and Palliative Care Unit of the Saint John Regional Hospital.
