Richard Gregg

May 28, 1942  –  April 11, 2026

The death of Richard Arthur Gregg occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on April 11th, 2026 following a brief illness.

Born in Saint John, New Brunswick on May 28th, 1942, he was the son of J. Harold (“Bus”) Gregg and Evelyn Margaret (Sheehan) Gregg. Besides his beloved wife Norma Rheta (Higgins), he is survived by his daughters Patricia Anne White (Dr. David Clifford) and Jennifer Lynn (Timothy) MacFarlane and his grandchildren, Samuel (“Sam”) Gregg White and Allison (“Allie”) Victoria White, their father Thomas Robert White, first cousin Carolyn (Terry) Howe, and first cousins Janet Thorne and Liz Murray of St. Paul, Minneapolis.

A life-long resident of Saint John and surrounding area, Richard attended local schools, graduating from Saint John High in 1960. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from University of New Brunswick (Fredericton) in 1964, where he met his best friend and wife to be, Norma Higgins. He received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Dalhousie University in 1968. Richard practiced dentistry in Saint John for 34 years before retiring in 2002. He held membership in the Canadian Dental Association, the New Brunswick Dental Society, and was past president of the Saint John Dental Society.

Richard enjoyed sports and won a provincial basketball championship with Saint John High School in 1959. He was an avid golfer in his younger years and won several junior golf tournaments and club championships. Richard enjoyed gardening, woodworking, playing guitar, and fly tying. He had a passion for fly fishing, particularly salmon fishing on the Miramichi River where he spent many memorable days with his good friend Dr. Arthur Cunningham at their camp in Doaktown.

Richard was a loving and devoted husband to his wife of 60 years. He was also a loving father to his daughters, Patricia and Jennifer, and a loving “Bubba” to his wonderful grandchildren, Sam and Allie. He was their number one fan and attended as many musical and sporting activities as possible.

He had a great sense of humor which will be missed by all who knew him.

He was a long-time active member of St. David’s United Church in Rothesay, from where the funeral will take place on Friday, April 17th at 1 pm. Visitation at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (506-634-7424) to be held on Thursday, April 16th from 6 to 8 pm.

Richard’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude for the exceptional and compassionate care provided by physicians and nursing teams at the Saint John Regional Hospital over the past few weeks including Dr. S. Chandra, nursing staff on 3DS, Dr. A. Jansen, Dr. T. Whalen, Dr. N. Gogan, Dr. S. Peechara, and Dr. E. Love.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances to the Saint John Regional Hospital Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, or St. David’s United Church would be appreciated.
