July 5, 1941 – October 24, 2026
With profound sadness, the family of Thelma Edith Keating announces her peaceful passing on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the Saint John Regional Hospital, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. Born in Saint John, NB, on July 5, 1941, Thelma was the cherished daughter of the late Harold Weir and Myrtle Edith Weir (Cunningham).
Thelma will be lovingly remembered and profoundly missed by John ‘Jack’ Keating, her devoted husband of more than 60 years; her sisters-in-law, Doris Green and Lorraine Taylor; her brother-in-law, Ron Keating; her cherished goddaughter, Tina Enman; and her many nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
In addition to her parents, Thelma was predeceased by her brothers-in-law, Andrew Keating, Bob Keating, and Allan Keating; her sisters-in-law, Gloria Collings and Bernice Conley; and her beloved dog, Nanna, a treasured companion who brought her much joy.
In her younger years, Thelma worked for Irving at the Golden Ball. After meeting Jack, she left the corporate world to pursue her creative spirit, establishing a ceramics business in her home studio in Grand Bay-Westfield. Her nieces would also spend countless hours in her beautiful ceramic shop.
Thelma was also a wonderful cook whose generous meals brought family and friends together. Her time in the kitchen was often accompanied by a cheerful bit of chaos, and her loved ones fondly joked that she could never prepare a delicious meal without leaving a memorable mess behind. Thelma always said, “a messy cook is a good cook”.
Thelma often called her niece Debbie for help with a supposed computer problem. Often, Debbie would arrive to discover that nothing was wrong at all, and she would lovingly tease her aunt that the call had simply been Thelma’s clever way of arranging a visit.
Thelma and Tina shared a cherished nightly tradition. When Tina returned home late from work at Pizza Delight, they would settle in together to watch Dallas while enjoying egg rolls and a can of Coke—a simple ritual that became a treasured memory.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Castle Fallsview Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Avenue, Saint John, NB E2M 3L3, 506-634-170. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 30, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A memorial service celebrating Thelma’s life will take place on Saturday, October 31, at 12:00 noon in the Castle Fallsview Chapel, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations in Thelma’s memory may be made to the Westside Food Bank or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
