Opportunities NB Appears Before Crown Corporations Committee

The Opposition economic development critic grilled Opportunities New Brunswick during an appearance in front of the Crown Corporations committee.

Kirk MacDonald, who is also the Progressive Conservative MLA for Fredericton York, was clearly unimpressed with the answers he was receiving, even suggesting ONB go back to its office, prepare and then come back to the committee.

MacDonald asked ONB about the job creation targets for companies that have received support from the corporation.

ONB CEO Stephen Lund told MacDonald he wasn’t going to speak specifically about job numbers but that he was welcome to call the companies and said that at the end of the year when they have the audited numbers they will be a position to share that information.

At the outset of the presentation, the committee heard ONB had committed to 1500 jobs in their first year and achieved a total of over 2900, however MacDonald questioned why ONB didn’t have the same jobs target mandate as premier Brian Gallant.
