Organigram CEO “Disappointed” By Federal Packaging Rules

The CEO of Moncton-based marijuana producer Organigram says the new federal packaging guidelines are nothing more than warning labels.

Greg Engel says he’s disappointed but thinks ultimately it won’t come down to the packaging anyway.

“Consumers are going to make a choice based on the product. It’s not going to be about the package per say. If everybody has similar packaging then it’s a level playing field. It’s about what you deliver in a quality product at the end of the day and can they link that product to your company in the brands that you sell,” he notes.

Engel says he wanted more branding elements and creativity in the packaging especially if you look at how alcoholic beverages are sold.

The whole idea behind legalization is to stamp out the black market but he adds how creative that market has been in its packaging.
