Partridge Island has a rather tragic history of quarantines, sickness, and – more recently – neglect; however, those definitely aren’t the only stories that can be told about its 24 acres looming off the coast of the West Side.
Historian Harold Wright tells CHSJ News there were also hundreds of people who lived on the island, holding parties, dances, sports and other diversions to brighten up their day-to-day work.
Wright’s free talk “Living on Partridge Island” is at the Saint John Free Public Library next Thursday at 7pm. It will feature photographs and stories from guests who actually live don the island, as well as items Wright has brought over from his visits to the historic site.
