Some people who live on the Kingston Peninsula aren’t pleased with the Provincial government’s decision to reduce service in Wesfield from two ferries down to one.
Barb Thompson is a mobile dog groomer and says the reduction will negatively affect her business. She would like the refit be postponed until the ice on the river melts in the spring.
Thompson says she has contacted Grand Bay-Westfield Conservative MLA Bill Oliver, who didn’t provide her with much hope conceding it’s the provincial governments decision and there’s not much he can do.
Thompson says there has always been two ferries since she moved to the peninsula in 1998.
She says two ferries ensures the channels don’t freeze up and she can see a situation developing that could lead to extra travel time of 2 to 4 hours just to get to work.
