Police Issue Warning After Millidgeville Woman Targeted By Scam

Saint John police are reminding Saint Johners to be wary of emails or calls asking for personal information or money after a Millidgeville woman was targeted by a scam.

The scam itself doesn’t appear to be new the woman received an email from a company called Help Commission saying that she won $250,000 but to get it she had to send a money-gram to the company in Kentucky. They also asked her to send a copy of her New Brunswick driver’s licence.

In a bit of a twist, though, a photo of the woman’s friend was attached to the email. The woman ended up calling that friend who told her that she had never heard of the company and didn’t know how they got her photo.

The woman then called police.

Saint John police have also released more details about an attempted robbery at Dominos on the west side last evening. Sergeant Chuck Breen says a man came in and threatened staff with a weapon and demanded cash.

He took off on foot after the staff member didn’t hand over any money.
