Trudeau Says Government Is Not A Cheerleader For Pipelines

When it comes to the proposed Energy East pipeline, Prime Minister Trudeau says his government will be evenhanded as a referee and not a booster or cheerleader.

Trudeau told a town hall meeting in Fredericton building a pipeline doesn’t go against the government’s committment made in Paris to reduce greenhouse gas emissions because of the caps put in place on oil sands emissions by Alberta.

Trudeau went on to say moving oil by pipeline is safer and less polluting than transporting it by rail.
