Premier Wants Direct Air Connection To U.S.

Discussions are underway with smaller regional air carriers in the U.S. who might be interested in expanding into Atlantic Canada. That word from Derrick Stanford, C-E-O at Saint John Airport who says Premier Brian Gallant would like to see a direct air connection from New Brunswick to the U.S., viewing that as a good way to grow the provincial economy.

Stanford says any such air link will have to be with a smaller regional carrier because the big airlines in the U.S., of which there are just four, aren’t interested while Air Canada likes to fly you to one of their hubs, like Toronto, and then you fly from there to the U.S.

Meantime, in a ranking of the top 100 airlines in the world, Air Canada came in 31st. The top five ranked airlines are either Arab or Asian with Emirates topping the list.
