Prime Minister Won’t Dictate What New Brunswick Should Do With Carbon Pricing

Prime Minister Trudeau says it’s not up to the federal government to tell the provinces what they should do with the revenues generated by the carbon tax.

The PM does say he had a conversation with Premier Brian Gallant about ensuring the phasing out of NB Power’s coal plant in Belledune will not unduly affect people in the province with their electricity rates.

Premier Gallant has said a higher gas tax might be part of carbon pricing which goes into effect in New Brunswick next January.
