Property Owner Butts Heads With Common Council

Property owner Paul Daeres, founder of Daeres Property Management Ltd., has been in the hot-seat as of late as the owner of various parking lots and now-demolished buildings, including the Paramount.

Daeres is now firing back at city hall–and in particular, common councillor Donna Reardon–in a letter to council, saying the uptown is being allowed to fall apart and nothing is being done to help business owners like himself. Reardon tells CHSJ News she’s just trying to get to the bottom of why buildings are being torn down in the first place, and that has included asking questions about the number of demolition permits being issued.

Daeres says he’s been living in the uptown for nearly 50 years and he never thought he’d see it deteriorate to the level it has now. Reardon says there’s been a certain amount of focus on Daeres lately, which may explain the timing of his letter of complaint to council.

You can read that letter on pages 9 and 10 of Common Council Agenda Packet, available online here
