Proposal To Breathe New Life Into A Church That Has Closed

There’s a rezoning proposal before Common Council tonight that would see a wedding chapel and restuarant established in the now closed St. George’s Church on the west side.

The church property at the intersection of Watson Street and King Street West will have to be rezoned to General Commercial to allow the proposal to proceed. Both City Staff and the Planning Advisory Committee are in favour of rezoning.

Council is being told the restaurant would serve about 50 people a day and the character of the neighbourhood would not be dramatically altered.

The parking plan indicates parking and wheelchair access would be developed adjacent to the building’s entrance. Parking would also be developed in the yard that fronts on Duke Street West and extra room for parking would be accommodated on lots that are currently vacant.
