The provincial government has unveiled $20 million in plans for seniors in New Brunswick.
Premier Brian Gallant outlined the initiatives at a nursing home in Fredericton on Friday.
Those plans include a pilot project providing transition beds in special care homes for short-term stays which should free up acute-care beds.
The province will continue implementing its aging strategy including a focus on dementia.
Wait times will be reduced for hip and knee replacements.
A colon cancer screening program will be fully implemented for adults over 50.
Seniors will be encouraged to stay active and independent by engaging them in the workforce through a new employment program.
In addition, wages will be increased for special care home employees and home support workers to address turnover and staffing challenges.
