A public hearing will be held in Rothesay on the proposed changes to the water by-law which would force commercial and multi-unit residential properties to connect to and use the town water which has some concerned over the possible pricetag.
First and second readings of the bylaw have already been approved and Mayor Bill Bishop says they’re holding the public hearing at this point because they had a lot of citizens feel that the increase in fees and the fact that they had to hook up was “a little heavy-handed.”
A memo from town manager John Jarvie states that there are six commercial and 11 mult-unit residential properties that aren’t connected to the town’s water system. If the by-law passes then $25,000 in connection fees would be due from commercial properties and over $147,000 from the multi-unit residential.
The public hearing will be held on Monday, May 11 at 7pm.
