If you live in Quispamsis you could be paying a bit more for your taxes next year.
During a special budgetary meeting, four councillors voting for a one cent increase to the property tax rate for next year while three others voted against. However, the budget has not yet been approved and Mayor Murray Driscoll says nothing is set in stone until that time.
Driscoll tells us they depleted their reserves considerably while building the q-plex and now they want to build them back up again so they are able to pay for a major expense down the road should the need arise.
He points to the Christmas ice storm and Arthur saying those storms were both unpredictable and cost a lot of money.
The town’s current property tax rate is $1.2385 per $100 of property assessment value. It’s believed the increase would generate an extra $162,000 in revenue for the town.
