Recreation Cards Coming To Saint John

If you use any of Saint John’s arenas, you may need to start showing a recreation card.

The city is rolling out the recreation card program this fall, as part of its non-resident user fee model for ice arenas.

For non-residents, who are members of a team, league or association that regularly rents out the arenas, the cards will cost $200.

For Saint Johners, they will be available for free.

The fees will cover a portion of the operating costs for the arenas.

More information on how to get a card will be made available in the coming weeks.

No funding is currently being put aside now, including from revenues expected from the Non-Resident User Fees, to improve or replace the City’s aging arenas.

Non-resident user fees will be implemented through a phased approach, starting in fall of 2019. Prices will gradually increase each year.

The city says there is potential to lower or change the user fee prices if neighbouring towns and districts decide to become what they call “facility funding partners.”

There are no partner agreements are in place for the 2019-2020 season.
