Saint John Alpines Begin Senior Baseball Semifinal

The Saint John Alpines begin their quest Thursday for the New Brunswick Senior Baseball League title.

Saint John will host the Chatham Ironmen for game one of their best-of-seven semifinal series.

The first pitch at Memorial Field on the west side is at 8 p.m.

The two teams finished the regular season tied for second place in the league standings with 18-14 records.

During regular season play, the Alpines won five of the eight games they played against the Ironmen.

Game two of the series is in Chatham on Friday night, with game three back in Saint John on Monday.

The other semifinal series has the Fredericton Royals taking on the Moncton Fisher Cats.

Moncton finished the regular season in first place (19-13) while Fredericton finished in fourth (13-19). The two teams split the eight games they played against each other during the regular season.
