Saint John Council Appoints New City Manager

There will soon be a new face around the Common Council horseshoe with Jeff Trail being officially named the new city manager, replacing Pat Woods.

His current position is Assistant Deputy Minister with Business Development and Innovation for the province and Mayor Mel Norton says he has experience in the private sector, from his own business and also in the public sector.

He lives in Fredericton and Norton tells us that a new perspective was something that appealed to some members of council.

The search started last November and about 60-plus applicants applied for the position and council shortlisted that down to 12 candidates.

Trail’s exact start date has not been determined.

The vote to appoint Trail was 6-4. Both Deputy Mayor Shelley Rinehart and Councillor John MacKenzie voicing their opposition citing issues with the contract, not the candidate.
