Public libraries in the Saint John region are teaming up to collect new socks for less fortunate in the community.
It’s called Project Bare Feet and it continues until the end of February at all three Saint John branches and the Kennebecasis library in Quispamsis.
Robin Sexton-Mayes, library director of the West Branch Public Library, tells us why they decided to do the campaign.
“The number one requested item at shelters is brand new socks,” says Sexton-Mayes, “so that’s why we decided to do a sock drive throughout the Saint John region.”

Some of the groups benefiting from this project include the Outflow men’s shelter, Hillcrest Baptist Church, and Seafarers Mission.
Sexton-Mayes says they have already collected close to 600 pairs of new socks at her branch alone.
“People are so excited to be able to help and donate socks for all ages,” she says. “They think it’s a great program and we’ll definitely be continuing it next year.”
You can drop off new socks at any of the participating libraries or slide them into the book drop-off if they’re closed.
