With the exception of Alberta, job creation is not robust with the unemployment rate increasing to 7% last month, slightly higher than in April.
Many young workers came into the job market last month looking for summer jobs. Stats Canada reports nearly 26,000 jobs were created but most of them were part time.
In the past year, the Canadian economy has produced 86,000 jobs. That’s viewedas relatively low and most of the new employment was part time.
In Alberta, employment increased by 16,000 in May with little change in the other provinces.
In Saint John, there was a rise in the unemployment rate last month to 7.7 per cent from 7.3 per cent in April.
