WATCH: Planting Marigolds for Veterans

Two grade 3 french immersion classes from Sussex Elementary enjoying a good day school while learning about the sacrifices of war.

The students planted over 2000 marigolds outside Ridgewood Veterans Hospital.

Nicole Gillies, a staff member at Ridgewood, tells CHSJ News she was inspired by the connection the Marigolds project has to veterans this year.

She says she thought they should do their own planting of marigolds on the 70th anniversary of D-Day so they invited Sussex Elementary student to come.

Gillies says the veterans enjoy the honour the children show them by remembering D-Day.

Gillies interviewed a veteran a Ridgewood who was part of the D-Day invasion at Normandy and she read his story to the students after the planting.
