It turns out a lot of us are following the new rules for garbage in Saint John.
By-law changes were approved last fall and the City has found there have been 62-percent fewer infractions, meaning the number of stickers that are being distributed.
Katherine Shannon of Transportation and Environment Services tells us the operators will no longer collect demolition materials, garbage that isn’t bagged or garbage put out in grocery bags.

“We ask everyone to identify when they have glass in their garbage,” Shannon says. “They can either wrap it in a newspaper and set it beside their garbage or put it in a cardboard box and write glass or sharp contents for the operator’s safety”.
She says they want to thank the public for becoming more ‘wastewise’ and taking care of the trash they generate.
