Sistema NB Youth To Perform With National Arts Centre Orchestra

About 240 musicians from the Sistema New Brunswick program, will be joined by members of the National Arts Centre Orchestra this weekend to perform.

They are one of the top professional orchestras in the country.

CEO of the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra New Ken MacLeod says this is quite a privilege for these young musicians, “You have coaching and teaching from these very high level professional musicians. I would describe this as, if you play hockey, it would be like lacing up your skates, and jumping on the ice on the same line as Sidney Crosby.”

He adds, these professional musicians serve as mentors and role models for the youth, “One of the benefits of this experience, is the kids will prepare and rehearse, they’ll really try to reach for their best performance. It is very stimulating and motivating and inspiring for these children to play with these professional musicians.”

The Sistema program includes youth from Moncton, saint John, Richicbucto and Tobique First nation.

The concert will be held Saturday night at the Wesleyan Celebration Centre starting at 7 o’clock. It is a free concert.

The musicians will also learn and practice with members of the national orchestra this afternoon.
