Having a lot of playgrounds in a city sounds like a good thing – but not if they aren’t used and are falling into disrepair.
City Staff are currently making a list of the facilities that need to either be upgraded or used for something else, like a community garden. City manager Pat Woods says the process will take into account each neighborhood’s needs.
As the demographics of communities change, parks that were once used all the time can become an eyesore and attract vandals.
Before a playground is re-purposed, Woods says, there will be a process of publiv consultation.
