Special Care Homes Seeking Volunteers To Play Music For Residents

Calling all local musicians.

Two special care homes in the Grand Bay-Westfield and Martinon area are looking for volunteers to come and play music for the residents on a regular basis, whether that be weekly, bi-weekly or monthly.

Jan Seely tells CHSJ News they have been working on building the volunteer base for the special care homes her family owns, Murray Street and Seely Lodge, for some time now and so she put out the call for musicians on Kijiji on April 22.

“I’ve watched residents with music in the home when someone comes in to play and it creates a chain reaction of joy, it’s such positive energy that comes out of the experience and it’s pretty much transformative for the residents, for the caregivers,” Seely says.

“It’s very inspiring…it’s a great experience for all.”

She says the response has been overwhelming so far.

“As my role with the Special Care Home Association provincially as well I’m still trying to steer people to other homes in the region and to reach out to more places so we can broaden this base,” says Seely.

If you’re interested in reaching out to a home in community, she suggests going to GNB where all the special care homes are listed online.
