Storm Grinds Traffic To A Halt Before Easing Up

All schools in the Anglophone South and Francophone South School Districts are closed today because of poor road conditions.

The New Brunswick Community College campus in Saint John and Eastern College are also closed for the day.

U-N-B Saint John won’t be opening until noonhour. Classes at the community college in Saint Andrews are cancelled for the day but the buildings on campus will open up at 10:00.

City Transit says buses on routes 3 and 4 are not travelling along Ellerdale Street and Kilburn Avenue because of the road conditions. Buses will use Westmorland Road both ways until further notice and there’s no service on Route 34 due to poor road conditions. Buses could be delayed this morning in the aftermath of the storm.

The snow eased up in Saint John, as forecast, by around 3 this morning. According to Environment Canada, St. Stephen got 38 centimeters of snow. Sussex recorded 29 centimeters. Fredericton reports 22 centimeters. Saint John Airport has 15 on the ground although it appears there was more judging by the snow banks and Moncton received 23 centimeters.

Those high wind chills will be with us into tonight before becoming light.
