It’s the success stories that make it all worthwhile for the Greater Moncton SPCA..
It’s Dave Rogers first year in the role as Executive Director, but he says the compassion people have for animals is just incredible.
He just took over the role in April, ” I had hardly had my feet planted on the ground, and 19 huskies showed up in the yard. We went through a whole process to try and adopt the Huskies to right families, but we managed to do it.”
Rogers says the senior animals are close to his heart, “We had a 15 year old dog named Poppy. A gentleman came all the way from Sussex and adopted him, because he had two older dogs at home, and he figured Poppy may as well spend the last few years with them.”
He says he also remembers a story of a dog that had been at the shelter for quite awhile, “We had a dog here, and a family from Ontario had seen it online. Driving through on their vacation, they came in and checked on the dog, and then on their way home from Prince Edward Island they stopped, adopted the dog and brought it home.”
Rogers points out, so many people step up when we need them, whether it be to volunteer or foster the animals, and then there are those who come in to adopt. Some of them have a place in their heart for the younger animals, while others want to care for the seniors.
