The Vimy Ridge Centenary Leaves Its Own Legacy

Leslie Miller was thinking ahead when he grabbed a few acorns following the Battle of Vimy Ridge.

Jim Landry of Landscape New Brunswick tells us all the trees were decimated after the battle.

Landry tells us when Miller got home the trees were growing in Scarborough on a piece of land they called Vimy Oak Farm and his
neighbour Monty MacDonald grew up beside the farm and became friends with Leslie. A few years ago, Monty thought it would be a grand idea to repatriate some of these trees back to Vimy Ridge in France.

Unfortuneately that was not possible because of the rules about bringing plants in and out countries.

The solution was to plant the Vimy Ridge saplings all over Canada this including the Maritimes.

The saplings have been planted during ceremonies involving veterans at legions, schools and other public places.
