Therapist Offers Free Mental Health Support

A Saint John therapist is offering a free support session for those impacted by recent suicides in the city.

Laura Gatien said she wants to do something to help improve access to mental health support.

Gatien said she has heard from many people who feel hopeless after being sent away from different places.

During the session, Gatien said she plans to normalize the emotions people are feeling, offer some coping skills, and open up conversations around mental health.

She said there needs to be more timely access to mental health services and more conversations to reduce stigmatization.

The free session, which is open to everyone, will take place at 66 Waterloo Street from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23.
