Hundreds of female riders will travel New Brunswick’s roads and highways this Saturday, as a part of this years Backroad Ball.
This event attracts female motorcycle enthusiasts from across the country and the United States.
Co-Organizer Heather D’Entremont-Macdonald says this is the third year for the Backroad Ball and it’s the only all female event of this kind.
“It’s pretty unique to see a group of more than ten women riding together. We really turn heads. I actually attended an event in California for an all women’s festival like this called Babes Ride Out. We wanted to bring that feeling, that vibe that we got from those events back to Atlantic Canada.”
D’Entremont-Macdonald says, Women are coming from thousands of kilometres away to take part. One rider is coming 6000 kilometres from Vancouver Island to take part.
“Our furthest I believe is from British Columbia. She is travelling over 6000 kilometres to be with us. We have a few women coming from the United States, including one from Pennsylvania.”
The groups will meet up in Penobsquis on Saturday morning(June 16) for talks that will highlight safety and awareness and they’ll be taking group rides throughout other parts of New Brunswick.
Since the event began three years ago, they’ve seen a huge increase in the number of women taking part.
“We’ve more than doubled our attendance and sponsors that we have onboard with us. It’s really been an incredible reception that we’ve gotten from the public.”
The deadline to register is June 11. For more information on the event, click HERE
