Thousands Remain Evacuated In BC As Wildfires Continue

More than 160 wildfires are still burning in British Columbia and although the winds have died down, hot and dry conditions persist.

The Red Cross is helping the more than 37-thousand people who have been forced to flee their homes.

BC Red Cross spokesperson Kimberley Nemrava says evacuees are receiving emergency financial help for food, clothing and personal items.

“It’s really to help the evacuees, not only while they are out of their homes but also to help them recover,” she notes.

Some of the evacuees may not have a home to go back to and Nemrava says the Red Cross also helps out during the recovery phase.
