New York Yankees rookie Aaron Judge won the All-Star home run derby in Miami by hitting 47 with one of them going 513 feet. He leads the majors in homers with 30, on-base percentage and slugging as a rookie. Judge wasn’t assured of a place on the roster when spring training began. The All-Star game will be played tonight. Chris Sale of the Boston Red Sox will start for the American League against Max Scherzer of the Washington Nationals for the National League.
Forward Tyler Johnson will stay with with the Tampa Bay Lightning after signing a seven year contract worth $35 million. The 26 year old Johnson had 19 goals and 45 points in 66 games last season.
Leanne Richardson of Country Meadows near Moncton has a three shot lead heading into the final round of the New Brunswick Amateur Women’s Golf Championship at Mactaquac. Morgan Matchett of Miramichi is in second place.
