Moncton long distance runner Genevieve Lalonde has been named to the Canadian Olympic team that will compete in Rio. She placed third in the 3 thousand metre steeplechase at the track and field trials last week.
Giancarlo Stanton set a record to win the All-Star Home Run Derby. Stanton hit 20 homers in the final round to defeat defending champion Todd Frazier of the Chicago White Sox. Overall, the Miami Marlins slugger, who isn’t playing in the All-Star game itself, hit a record 61, shattering the previous record of 41.
The All-Star game will be played tonight. Johnny Cueto of San Francisco starts for the National League against Chris Sale of the Chicago White Sox for the American League. The winner gets home field advantage in the World Series.
