A spokesperson for Mount Allison University says expressions of hate are taken very seriously and not tolerated on campus.
That word from Robert Hiscock after photos of a swastika carved in the snow at Alumni Field were captured on social media.
Hiscock says the university’s security office has started to investigate along with a student committee which has been updating its racism policy.
“We also advised the town (Sackville) that this had happened and we were investigating. Obviously, we are a small community and we wanted them to be aware in case they had seen something similar. We also advised the RCMP and again just to let them know and that we were investigating from there,” he notes.
Hiscock adds exactly when the Nazi symbol was carved in the snow is not clear nor is another carving which replaced it on the field, the word “Hope.”
This showed up last night @MountAllison I hope there are cameras on that fancy field and a zero tolerance attitude to hate on my campus. pic.twitter.com/PJzbFUVIm7
